We must be feeling a little bit blue these days! Have a quick look at this group of pieces currently hanging in Las Rada Wine and Tapas bar in Naas and tell me if we don’t have a blue theme going here.
Starting from the left of the picture we have:
- Dee Kelly’s ‘Tulip – Turkish Delight‘ which celebrates the origin of the tulip. It is hand dyed paper delicately hand stitched.
- Catherine Dowling’s ‘My Network‘. This piece reflects the connections in Catherine’s life and how she relates to her network of family, friends, work, social and business connections using wet felted technique on Merino wool.
- Kathrina Hughes piece is called ‘Electric Indigo‘ and uses some of the pieces of Indigo dyed cotton she created in a workshop this summer (mentioned in a previous blog post) hand and machine stitched using cotton and metallic threads.
- Barbara Seery’s ‘Essence‘ evokes the intense blue/black colour at the centre of a poppy and was created using the ice dying technique with applied fibres, sheers and hand stitch.
And, if you are not convinced that the blues have hit us in earnest, see Colleen Prendiville’s ‘Parade de Casa Velha II’ on an adjacent wall. This is a Japanese woodblock print on paper with hand stitch and applied fabric.
Hopefully, we don’t recover from the blues too soon as these pieces are really good…. if I say so myself!
