Silk Paper making with Tunde Toth

On Saturday June 13th we were delighted to welcome the renowned paper artist, Tunde Toth (Kozo Studio, Castlecomer Co. Kilkenny www.tundetoth.com)  to the Community Hall in Kilteel.   We were treated to a wonderful day of silk paper making with tunde helping us to undersand the various forms of silk fibre and their individual qualities and uses.    We came armed with various threads, seeds, leaves and flower petals to include in the paper.

Sericin is the ‘magic’ ingredient occurring naturally in silk which allows the fibres to bond together when water and heat is applied.Silk fibres take dye extremely well and we had great fun experimenting with various colour combinations using procion dyes.We were also shown how to make a 3D form and our various ‘bowls’ were a sight to behold!
