Last Saturday saw the opening of STRATA at the Blue Egg Gallery in Wexford. This is a joint exhibition between element15 and the very talented ceramicist Freda Rupp. We had a wonderful afternoon viewing the restrained and elegant exhibition, inspiringly curated by Mary Gallagher, proprietor of the Blue Egg.
Our exhibition was formally opened by independent public art co-ordinator, Rina Whyte – thank you Rina. She spoke about the complexity of contemporary textiles and how the work is a personal response to an initial idea or influence – expressed in a variety of materials and processes.
Each member of the group present was asked to say a few words about their work. Though a little daunting for most of us, it was a great opportunity to give those visitors present some insight into how we go about creating a piece and what might trigger the idea in the first place.
We are delighted to have this collaboration with the Blue Egg Gallery and welcome the opportunity it offers to bring our work to a new audience in the Wexford area.
STRATA runs until 12 September, Tuesday to Saturday, 11am to 5.30 pm or by appointment
