Exhibiting in Finland!

Asta, one of our members, was invited to participate in an exhibition in Finland this summer.  The invitation came from the Finnish Felt Association (Filtti)  and arose out of a previous collaboration between the Finnish and Irish Feltmakers Associations.

15. 'And then there was one' by AstaThe exhibition was called ‘Black and White’ and obviously all the work had to be black, white or a mixture of both! and it took place in Jamsa, Finland from 29th June to 2nd August 2015.

Asta submitted her wonderful, all white piece called ‘And Then They Were One’ which was made using wet felting and needle felting techniques on Merino wool.   This piece is inspired by the emotional connections we solidify through the bonds of marriage.

Here it is modeled in real life and it looks amazing.  Unfortunately, the live models were not available to stand around for a month in Finland, but the piece looks equally good exhibited on the stands as seen below.

IMG_9902We are sharing a link to the gallery page of the Finnish Felt Association website because we think the feltwork in this exhibition is unique and inspirational. Considering the confines imposed by the monochrome colour scheme, each artist has produced pieces with depth, texture and complexity.

As with all things Nordic, the exhibition is beautifully and simply curated as you can see from these photographs, but I highly recommend going to the website to look at the individual exhibits, some of which are photographed in detail.

Well done Asta and keep creating these intriguing pieces of art.
