Exhibiting closer to home

Not all of us are as fortunate as Asta in having the opportunity to exhibit abroad (see last week’s post).  But we are more than happy to have a number of exhibitions currently showing in more local venues with Asta’s work featuring strongly in them all!

This week we changed our exhibits in Las Rada Wine and Tapas Bar in Naas.

Social Media, C DowlingThis is our seventh exhibition in the gallery space here since October 2014.  It is hard to believe it is one year since we were invited to be the artists in residence at Las Rada.  Jules and Joanne have been very supportive of our work and we continue to have a steady stream of sales from exhibitions here.

This red and yellow work by Catherine Dowling is called ‘Social Media’ and is part of a body of work undertaken with the theme ‘Connections’.   Catherine interprets the webs and clouds and the ties of mobile phones, email, twitter and Facebook – social media brings people together, forges formal and informal links and connections. The medium used to create this work is wet felting on merino wool with silk pongee, wool bats and silk.

Misty Blue, KH

Kathrina Hughes delicate piece entitled ‘Misty Blue’ is inspired by the skeletal remains of summer flowers on a foggy, frosty autumn morning.

It is a beautiful piece printed on Irish linen with layers of painted sheers and free machine embroidery.

‘Interwoven Thoughts’ is a dramatic work by Asta Gauronskyte.   The inspiration for it came from the thoughts, ideas, tasks and ‘must do things’ that run through all our heads forming tangled threads in our minds.

Asta used Merino wool, flax, silk fibres, silk chiffon, glass and natural stone beads, needle felting, machine and hand stitch to produce this very contemporary and unique work.

It is a large work measuring 95cm x 65cm.

Last week saw a small selection of our work go up in Inniscara Gallery and Bespoke Framers, Main Street, Rathcoole, Co. Dublin.

Niamh, who has worked in the framers for a number of years, now owns the business and has revamped the gallery space making it a bright, inviting place to exhibit and to browse the artwork for sale.

The Gallery is showing a wide selection of work for from a number of artists (not just element15) including water colours, ceramics, acrylics and textile art/mixed media and felt work.
