A really quick post this week. A thought struck us as we listened to the radio advertising for the Knitting and Stitching Show – it sounded a bit dull and old fashioned and the picture it painted of the event was not very exciting for those interested in contemporary textile art and feltwork! This could not be further from the truth.
Even if you never bought a thing in the hundreds of stands selling art supplies, equipment, books and fabrics, there is a wonderful exhibition area that should not be missed. The exhibition consists of mini-exhibitions mounted by invited textile art groups such as Cork Textiles and the O4 Textile Group, the Design and Craft Council of Ireland, NCAD students, Belfast School of Art and individual textile artists from home and abroad. In previous years it has been full of exciting and innovative work which gave many of us just starting out in the world of textile art a real eye opening experience. This year some element15 members have pieces in the exhibition itself (with the O4 Textile Group) and on some of the stands (Irish Guild of Embroiderers and Felt Makers Ireland).
Also there are lots of mini workshops you can do at a very reasonable price… not sure if there are spaces still available but it is worth a try. If you have any interest in the trends and changes happening in the world of textile art then this is not to be missed.
The show starts today, Thursday 12th and runs until Sunday 15th November in RDS Simmonscourt . More information on times and prices on their website – link below.

As if that wasn’t enough to do there is an art exhibition happening in the RDS main building called ‘Art Source 2015’ which looks really interesting too – so you could have a very nice and exhausting day out. This show runs from Friday, 13th to 15th November. Further information on their website – link below.
Keep busy!
