These boots were made for walking…Felted Boots!

Felted boots – who would have thought!  And yes, these boots are made for walking… outdoors. And are really warm and comfy too!

Asta, never one to sit on her hands, has made these really cute and functional boots for her daughter.  They are made from merino wool, wet felted, using these wooden shoe lasts to create the correct foot shape.  Asta sourced rubber soles which she then attached and finished the boots with a needle felted cat face (work in progress in the one eyed cat image below)!    A tremendous hit with her daughter and, I wouldn’t be surprised if she had lots of orders for more!

And while we are on the subject, here are some indoor booties Asta has made ……. just what is needed to get through in this extended winter!! These are very warm, comfortable and stand up to a good deal of wear and tear.  It is great to see handmade and functional footwear being produced.  Wool is breathable, insulating, readily absorbs moisture, hygienic and dirt repellent.  Most importantly these booties are eco-frendly, with no chemicals of any kind used in the process.  Who wouldn’t want a pair!   Get in line!!  You can contact Asta through her facebook page:   https://www.facebook.com/OldCourtLinens/

Focus on Asta

Asta Gauronskyte has been attracting a fair amount of her own publicity lately.   As well as being a productive member of element15, Asta has used her creative skills to develop her own business.   For many years Asta has run a successful enterprise making curtains and now she has added Old Court Linens to the brand stable.   Old Court Linens make exquisite linen products using high quality organic linen and attention to detail.   Asta recently received a commendation for The Best Product Award at Showcase Ireland 2017 for a very pretty and practical, linen bread bag.

The bread bags have since featured as a ‘Trending’ product in the Irish Times by Alanna Gallagher.  It goes to show you that there was logic in our grandmothers wrapping the bread in a linen tea towel to keep it fresh!

We are more familiar with Asta’s work with felt – she is a wizard at felt making, both in framed and wearable art.  We also love these felted covered diary’s and notebooks- each one totally unique and very a covetable product.

Now Asta has found a way to combine her love of linen and felt – by making beautiful linen bags in which to wrap and store, bespoke, nuno felted scarves.  Isn’t this divine?

Keep up the good work Asta!                                                                               https://www.facebook.com/OldCourtLinens/
