Fishy tails and Butterflys!

We are always happy to show you new work from members of our group.   The animal world seems to be the theme of the moment! Elaine Peden is perfecting her skills in 3D work these days and has produced another fish to follow the sale of her beautiful salmon at the end of last year.

This time it is a more exotic species – a Bicolour Parrotfish, found in the Sinai Peninsula – no less!   The colours are amazing, especially as the base material started life as Gotland Icelandic grey fleece before Elaine worked her magic.

Hanna Ahonen has butterflies on her mind;  multi-coloured, multi-patterned and beautiful butterflies!   These creatures were made using free machine embroidery whereby layers of stitching is built up to create a new fabric of the threads.  Hanna has placed the butterflies on vibrant green crochet leaves.  Hanna’s skills at both stitch and crochet is evident in this work.

What a cheerful addition this would make to a child’s room!

These works, and more, are currently on display in Two Cooks Restaurant in Sallins, Co. Kildare.

First Sale of 2017

What a nice way for an art group to start 2017 – with a sale!    For an artist making a sale is affirmation that you are doing something right and encouraging that someone else values your creativity!  This lovely work by Caroline Fitzgerald was hanging in our current exhibition in Two Cooks Restaurant in Sallins when it was purchased.

‘Ascent’ is an acrylic on calico, with silk chiffon, wax resist and hand embroidery.   It was inspired by Skellig Michael in Co. Kerry, watching the birds ascending into the clear blue sky over rugged rocks and sea.

Rounding off 2016 feeling festive!

Happy Christmas from all eighteen textile artists in element15!

We have had a lovely creative year and look forward to many more together. We started the Christmas celebrations with a night out in one of our favourite haunts – Las Rada Wine and Tapas Bar, Naas.

That night we also had a special presentation to Catherine Dowling who got married in November – we each covered three buttons in something special and they were mounted on a hand dyed fabric backing and framed.  Our own unique way of celebrating the happy occasion!
